A Tutorial on Next Generation Propulsion Systems

Organizer: Shobhit Gupta, Shreshta Rajakumar Deshpande, Junfeng Zhao

Time: Monday, 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Brighton I

Electrification alone is no longer sufficient. Next-gen propulsion demands integration of connectivity, adaptive battery management, and predictive control to optimize efficiency, longevity, and performance. This tutorial addresses the convergence of these domains to overcome real-world challenges like range anxiety, battery degradation, and dynamic energy optimization.

The evolution toward software-defined vehicles demands propulsion systems that intelligently fuse real-world data with advanced control. While electrification forms the foundation, next-gen performance hinges on integrating connectivity, adaptive BMS, and predictive control – a triad critical for maximizing range, longevity, safety, and user experience. This tutorial tackles these challenges by demonstrating how cloud, V2X, and data transform propulsion control from reactive to proactive. The session will comprise of tutorials from areas related to next gen BMS and propulsion systems leveraging predictive controls for energy efficient operations and accurate state estimation. The speakers will comprise of technical experts and researchers from industry, national labs and academia.
